In Silence

When you're here sleeping so soundly
I am compelled to maintain the silence that surrounds you
Everything is set to silent
The phones
The tablet devices
The empty distractions
Until all the remains is the hum of the air conditioner
And the distant rumble of cars

I can almost hear you breathing
And I am reminded right here and now
That although life demands I run in the fast lane
There are times and places to simply stop everything
And survey the beauty of God's creation
Through your little hands
Through your tiny heart beat
Through your lovely smile
Through you

Thank you, dear niece
For helping me in the worship of my Lord
